The kids have just left for school and the house has fallen silent, aside from the wind and rain hitting the window behind me. It’s October – Autumn has finally arrived. The leaves are falling with each gust of wind and the puddles are joining together so walking anywhere is like playing a game of the floor is lava!

The heating is on and I’ve got a coffee and some hot buttered toast to get me through. I would light the fire but as I leave for work in just over an hour there’s no point. I’ve never written a blog before (at least not one that I was willing to share), so please stick with me. Things will be rocky in the beginning but I want to keep those of you who are eager to know where things are, up to date with all that’s going on at The Misty Toadstool.

Last night with about an hour until the deadline, I hit the submit button to my website designer and the first steps of this journey began. I’ve got another fortnight before I send over the hard copies that will be the writing on the pages you are looking at now. I’m nervous and excited in equal measure! Every spare second is spent pouring more thoughts and ideas onto my laptop, or crocheting more for trips into the forest to get photographs for the pages you’re now facing.

What’s on the hook?
Right now I am working on a Dreamy Dragon in pale blue and it’s coming together beautifully. I can imagine this one in a crib or on a nursery shelf.

What’s just off the hook?
As my nephew is due in only a matter of weeks, I have just pinned out his hap. What is a hap? It’s a wrap to keep you warm, a square with a patterned border. I chose the softest lace I have ever felt made with baby alpaca, silk, and cashmere, so I’m eagerly waiting for it to dry so I can get the yarn ends sewn in and it can wrap him up as snug as a bug. To say I’m excited is a massive understatement. Photos will of course follow!

What’s next?
I’m mainly focusing on building the stock for my online shop, however, I was recently at Perths Festival of Yarn where I met Kelly from Lay Family Yarns. We got to chatting and she asked if I would crochet her a sweater like the one I was wearing at the festival (the Bark sweater by Sidsel Sangild) using one of her colours. There was zero hesitation in my response! Just last week, I received a message from her to say she has developed some new colourways and has decided the one she would like for the sweater! It’s rare to be getting a yarn delivery and not have any idea what’s inside.

See you all soon,
